ในการประชุมคณะกรรมการธนาคารแห่งประเทศไทย เมื่อวันที่ 27 พฤษภาคม 2569 ที่ประชุมได้คัดเลือกและมีมติแต่งตั้ง นายสมชาย หาญหิรัญ เป็นกรรมการผู้ทรงคุณวุฒิในคณะกรรมการนโยบายการเงิน (กนง.) แทนนายสันติธาร เสถียรไทย ที่ลาออกก่อนครบวาระ โดยมีผลตั้งแต่วันที่ 28 พฤษภาคม 2569 และ มีวาระการดำรงตำแหน่งเท่ากับวาระที่เหลืออยู่ของนายสันติธาร เสถียรไทย คือ จนถึงวันที่ 31 ตุลาคม 2569
